Trade show hotel booking in Asia has its own logic — venues sit further from city centres than teams expect, transit systems are excellent but unfamiliar, and “walking distance” means something different in Tokyo than it does in Chicago. Here’s what to know across the region’s major fair cities.
Venues sit in dedicated districts, not downtown
Tokyo Big Sight sits on the Ariake waterfront, KINTEX sits in Goyang on Seoul’s northwest edge, INTEX Osaka sits on Osaka Bay, Hong Kong’s AsiaWorld-Expo sits by the airport — none of these are in the historic city centre. This isn’t a design flaw; land near a major Asian downtown is scarce and expensive, so exhibition grounds get built where large sites are available, then connected by dedicated transit.
The transit connection is usually excellent — use it
Because these venues were built with the district-not-downtown pattern in mind, most have direct, frequent, reliable rail or subway connections into the city centre — often faster and cheaper than a taxi, and immune to the traffic that can hit rideshare demand hard during a major show. A multi-day transit pass is frequently the better call over rideshare here, which isn’t always true in car-oriented US markets.
“Near the venue” vs. “in the city” is a real, deliberate choice
Just like at KINTEX (Seoul) or INTEX Osaka, you genuinely have two distinct options: a smaller cluster of hotels immediately by the halls, or a much larger selection in the city centre a short transit ride away. Choose based on your actual schedule — full show-floor days favour the venue cluster; a mix of sessions and evening plans favours the city centre.
Book earlier for the region’s largest shows
Tokyo Game Show, HANNOVER-MESSE-scale industrial shows, and major Seoul/Osaka trade fairs can fill the closest hotel tier months out. Regional or specialized shows move faster to book but don’t carry the same urgency — check your specific show’s scale rather than applying a blanket rule across the region.
Language and booking channels
Hotel names and addresses in Japan and Korea are often listed in both the local script and a romanized form — when researching independently, search both to avoid missing a genuinely close option. A group booking service that already has the correct local venue and hotel names removes this friction entirely.
