Deutsche Messe in Hannover is, by exhibition-space area, the largest fairground in the world — 24 halls across roughly 466,000 square metres, home to HANNOVER MESSE, AGRITECHNICA, LIGNA, and EuroBLECH. A site that size changes how you should think about where to stay.
The fairground has its own hotel cluster — and its own train station
Unlike venues bolted onto the edge of a city, Deutsche Messe was built with direct rail access: the Hannover Messe/Laatzen station sits on-site, connected to the main network. A small cluster of hotels sits within a few minutes’ walk of the halls — useful for exhibitor crews doing early setup or working the floor across a multi-day show.
Central Hannover is a real, easy alternative — not a compromise
Because the rail connection is direct and fast, staying in central Hannover isn’t the “further away, worse option” it would be at a venue without good transit. It puts you closer to the city’s restaurants and evening options, at the cost of a short train ride each morning — a genuinely reasonable trade for teams not tied to the booth from open to close.
Book earlier than you think for HANNOVER MESSE specifically
HANNOVER MESSE itself is one of the largest industrial trade shows on the calendar, drawing exhibitors and visitors from well beyond Germany. Rooms near the fairground — in both tiers — sell out significantly earlier than for a typical regional show. If your team is confirmed for HANNOVER MESSE, treat hotel research as a same-week task, not a “closer to the date” one.
Other shows, different crowd sizes
Not every Hannover show pulls HANNOVER MESSE-level demand. AGRITECHNICA and LIGNA are large but more specialized; EuroBLECH and IAA Transportation draw sizeable but more predictable crowds. The booking-urgency advice above scales down accordingly — check your specific show’s scale before assuming you need to book eight months out.
